Does the sight of a blank page send you into a spiral or give you writer’s block? Even as a seasoned Melbourne copywriter, getting those opening words down can be a task. But over time I’ve developed a few hacks...

To get into the right mindset, I use short exercises designed to unlock creativity and ease the way into my writing day.

Try the unlocking exercise below to inspire you with anything from copywriting to short stories.

*Hot tip: Once you’re done. Dig through what you’ve written for copy or story ideas. It’s amazing what’s hidden in the far reaches of your mind!

Interior Worlds.

Picture yourself at a big birthday bash.

Not just any bash, but a party thrown in celebration of a man you secretly can’t stand but publicly pretend to...

When someone calls SPEECH! you hover quietly by the food stand, only to be summoned in a moment of spontaneity to pay honour to the birthday boy.

Write what happens next, using external and internal monologue as well as physical, mental and emotional sensations. Make note too of the party room and of the other guests. Write for 15 minutes without stopping to judge or edit.
